This has to be the best Teriyaki/ Japanese food I have ever eaten. Everything that I have tried here, I have loved. The portions are large and delicious. The prices are reasonable. Once you have tried Mon Cafe, you will come back! I have visited Japan before and this is one of the few places that I can find Japanese drinks. If I lived anywhere near a Mon Cafe, I would be in serious trouble, I could eat it every day.

I love quick hibachi places and this is one of the best I've had. All your typical options are available with some sushi rolls as well. Stopped in tonight and I ordered the chicken and shrimp meal. Each plate comes with a heaping helping of rice, zucchini, and onions. My friend ordered the steak and chicken but asked to add broccoli as well. Then we added a spicy crab roll to split. The quality of the steak, shrimp, and chicken was all top notch. I usually wouldn't go for the steak option at the quick hibachi places just because I'm pretty picky about steak. I tried my friends and would recommend it all day. They spruced up the decor a bit so it feels a little nicer which is a welcomed touch. The service was excellent and you could tell that they truly wanted to make sure you had a good experience. I will be back for sure.

On the golf team at CCU, we used to eat here at least 3 times a week. The going saying was "The only thing better than Mon is Free Mon" as we played eachother for dinner every round haha. It's an excellent spot and the food is consistently great with large portions. I get the steak bowl every single time and I can't get enough, just top it with the white sauce and it's great every time. And for the weirdos out there like myself... The ice is in pellet form, which is a huge plus! There are lots of options, but I don't stray from my steak bowl very often. Highly recommend!

What a hidden little gem. The wife and I were driving from Charleston to Jacksonville and had a hankering for some sushi. We did a quick yelp search using the mobile app and found Mon Cafe. A sushi place that's open just about all day with low prices usually implies to me that it will probably be kind of crummy grocery store quality sushi...that is NOT the case with Mon Cafe! This place is the real deal. I dropped Colleen off to place our order while I ran over to the gas station to fill up with petrol. It only took a few minutes to get our order from the friendly staff and we were back on the road again. We got three rolls, a cali, a spicy tuna, and a plain tuna. Let me just say that having lived in California, Hawaii, and several other places where high quality tuna is the standard I have had to pick and choose my sushi joints very carefully here on the east coast. After taking my first bite of the tuna roll I knew we were really going to enjoy our mobile meal. That was some darn good fish!!! Very fresh and well portioned maki. The california roll was just a little too heavy on the mayo for my liking, but a little extra wasabi evened that right out. All in all, any time I am traveling on HWY 17 by this place, I'll be stopping in for a roll or two! Can't wait for the trip back on Thursday!

Great food. Fed four adults and two kids. Got two hibachi steak/scallops, two hibachi steak/shrimp, kids chicken meal and a crunch roll. The adult dinners were excellent and the sushi was quite tasty and filling. Good portion sizes. Ordered food and 10 minutes later it was ready. Great service at the counter. Will visit again!

Ok Yelpers, on your advice, I gave Mon Cafe Japan a try with my husband tonight. We had hibachi fillet mignon with zucchini, onions, mushrooms and although we asked for brown rice, we got white rice. Being a newcomer, we obtained one of their cards and received immediate $5 off our meals. We were given thin plastic cups, so we could help ourselves to our own beverages. We sat at a table and a woman brought us our meals on a plastic tray. As rough as the tableware was, the food was delicious and our bellies were full when we left. With the discount, our meals came to $30 for two. We didn't have any leftovers, but we left full and content. This is not a fancy place to eat, but the food is good and we'll be back.

Low cost meal that is full of flavor and freshness, a lighter and healthier choice for those trying to get away from heavier foods. Specializes in Teriyaki and sushi dishes. Most meals are about $10 or less and some include drinks. I had the Mahi Mahi and it was full of flavor and was cooked fresh when I ordered it. I'll be back.

A great place to eat. The food and atmosphere are both excellent. This is my go to place, for a always consistent delicious meal. Very clean, friendly staff and great food. A+

I really like this place and would probably give it 5 stars for the area. If you are looking for an artful, San Francisco-esq sushi restaurant, this isn't it. However, if you are at the Surfside Beach and want some good Japanese eats at at great value, this is place should be on your short list. Located I n a strip mall near a Walmart, the outside is unassuming. Inside it is nice, clean and friendly. I particularly like the sushi combo lunch with unagi roll--about 10 bucks.

If you are looking for fast food Japanese style, this is the place to eat. I have been eating here since it opened and I have never been disappointed. My favorites are the children bowl, hibachi steak and chicken or chicken and scallops. Excellent food at reasonable prices.

I've eaten at two of these joints, and I call them joints, because that's what it really is.. there isn't really anything "special" to the menu, its street side Rice and veggies or beggers cant be choosers teppanyaki.. in other words, its budget stir fry.. but its also not too bad when you're on a budget either because you get decently fresh veggies and things like chicken and rice, and they can be healthy options should you crave things like stir fried veggies on steamed rice. so there are some good things about this place. on the down side, there have been more than a few outbreaks of weak food poisoning or mis use of their japanese sauce, which is mayonnase based and they dont seem to keep it a proper temperatures.. that said, this is hit and miss and doesnt happen frequently enough to really "avoid" it when I have a craving for it... just something to be aware of. I would say, stay away from the sushi.. its definitely nothing special unless you enjoy the very most basic roll that has very little thrill and for that matter makes them money because its MOSTLY rice anyway. but all in all, its an A-ok place

Always fresh. Good serving sizes. The chicken is nice and chuncky all white meat. Not processed chicken like some of its competitors.

Fast food Japanese at it's best. Really good specials & they even make the sushi while you're there. Not pre-packaged ahead of time like other places. Same staff as long as I've been coming in here so that have it down.

I have been a fan of Mon Cafe since I first tried it! I have eaten at a few competitors but Mon is always better. I do not get sushi and I typically get a chicken bowl or chicken entree . The chicken is much better than the chicken from competitors. There is a similar restaurant close by that is good (the only one I would consider in the same league) but we still prefer Mon. Chicken bowl, hot sauce and a little white sauce--yum! Just wish they had a drive through for the times we just need a carry out. That would help this mommy out! Oh, I took one of my friends there when she was in town visiting. She had never had this type of food. She called me a few days after she retuned home and said she is craving Mon and the white sauce :). My children enjoy chicken bowls too!

I visited on mother's day. Not too busy and food was quick. Next time I will order the bowl chicken instead of the entree chicken. Same thing minus a few onions and zucchini but a price difference.

I always loved the chicken bowl but just had it with all veggies and no rice and I am a huge fan! Stir fried onions and zucchini with that wonderful tasty chicken on top. Yeah!

Best hibachi on the beach! I've been going to this place 15 years now and love it every time!

The chicken bowl is glorious. I could eat it every day. Make sure to check out happy hour from 2-4 Mon thru Fri. Also get a lot of the white sauce, it goes with rice and chicken nicely.

This 'Teppan' styled fast food restaurant has a hibachi menu, sushi selection and appetizers to include miso soup, spring rolls and seaweed salad. Don't forget your sauces! Most all of the bowls have just rice and meat, however, you can request half veggies & rice to go with your meat at no extra charge. Restaurant has approximately 20 tables & chairs. Very clean. Restaurant is under new management.

I've been eating here since middle school - I'm now 24 & no longer live at the beach, but whenever we're there a visit to Mon Cafe (formerly Kyoto Express) is absolutely mandatory. the sushi is fantastic - the sticky rice & fresh ingredients make it some of the best sushi I've had at the beach. the only thing I eat (literally, I don't think I've had anything else) is a chicken bowl with a side of vegetables mixed with mayo sauce. I'm pretty sure that would be my "last meal" if I could choose. just go. trust me. (PS - the name of the restaurant is actually "Mon Cafe Japan")

Unfortunately, in Myrtle Beach there is chain after chain and local places are often overshadowed. Mon Cafe Japan gives M.B. a little personality. The mood is relaxed and the prices are reasonable. Personally, I have sat here much longer than I care to admit after finishing my Chicken bowl and california rolls. I love this place and every time I'm in town I have to go by.
